This story somewhat dips into what we talked about today: about how we often confuse the faith with the way different people interpret and practice. In this story, members of the Ásatrú religion in Iceland. White supremacists here in the U.S. are misappropriating symbols from that religion to push white supremacy. Now their religious symbols are being tied to belief systems that don’t fall in line with their particular faith. Much like religious extremists in any of the world’s major religions, the perception of a religion by outsiders is being influenced by the way it’s practiced/use of its symbols. The question becomes: how do personal beliefs fit into theology?
